Fwd: web clips

Andy-
I figured it out! Traub was wrong, those directions were just for the
personalized home page. This is how you get the web clips.

1) Go to settings in the upper right hand corner.
2) Click "web clips" on the far right.
3) In the "Search by topic or URL" box, type debate194.net
4) Then click "add"

I would also highly recommend removing all of the other web clips,
like Recipes 101.

Debaters in Speech

The Roseville tournament marks the end of the invitational speech season, so this seems like a great time to recognize the many Lakeville debaters who compete for the Lakeville North and Lakeville South speech teams.

Congrats to all of these debaters!

Tyler and Tom put their brains together and came up with these directions that will allow you to make Debate194.net part of your Google search homeplage and also show up as a headline in your Gmail:

google hompape here is step by step directions.
1. From the google hompage click on the PERSONALIZED HOMEPAGE link.
Its in the upper righthand corner.
2. Now click on SIGN IN in the blue box on the left hand side of the screen.
3. Click on ADD CONTENT in the upper left hand corner.
4. A sidebar will appear on your screen. On the bottom of that bar
click on the section that says CREATE A SECTION until a search bar
appears.
5. Type debate194.net in the search bar exacly like that.
6. You should be done and a section that say WELCOME TO LAKEVILLE

April 5th Parent Meeting

Debate parents!

It's been a couple months since the debate season ended and it seems like the right time to have a parent meeting to organize fundraising, etc. for next year.

Date will be Wednesday, April 5th
Time is 6PM
Place is room 248 at Lakeville North

I'll do my best to stay out of your work as a parent group, but I've booked the room and will help get the ball rolling with this information:

1. Greg Berger is willing to keep track of money but would be OK if his role were limited to that function.

2. I will organize a budget/schedule in terms of potential travel.

3. The date for our 2006 invitational tournament is Saturday, October 14th.

Yes, It's All New

I loved our old debate website. Everybody on the team knows that this is the place to go for everything related to our team. In the last year, we've had 25,795 visits from people looking for information. But it's time for a change.

So, what's different and why?

This system uses Blogger from Google. Many more features are available to us (or more easily available to us) by using Blogger at the core of the website. For example:
  • Much better, easier photo posting. Blogger integrates with Picassa so I can post without ever needing re-size photos. Plus, clicking on a photo will give you a full-size copy of the image.
  • Hassle-free integration with Audioblog. I can call in a message and it will automatically be posted without any work on my part. This will be nice not only for weekly announcements, but also to share tournament results when computer access is limited.
  • I can email posts directly to Blogger.
  • Posting news items will take me much less time.
  • Better spell-check, formatting, etc.
  • Blogger generates an Atom newsfeed, which means that you can have debate website items appear in the news clips at the top of Gmail.
This isn't to say the work is done. It will take me a while to get things setup the way like, but right now it's a start.

Send an email to charrier@debate194.net if you have any comments.
