Tuesday -- off; this is a change
Wednesday -- North @ 5:30
Thursday -- Fly to Austin, TX; no practice
Fri-Sat -- Debate at UT; new topic is released
Sun -- home in time to watch football

Experienced debaters who debated last weekend need to have a rebuttal prepped and ready to re-do on Monday.  We want to hear either your 2A or 2N from a round that was hard for you.

Finally, a reminder that the Awards Night for debate is December 19th at 6:30PM.

Final Glenbrook Results

Tom Caruso loses his semifinal round at Glenbrook on a 2-1 ballot. We are all proud of his performance. He broke as the #1 seed in JV and did not drop a ballot prior to his loss in semis.

Karen Zhou was 2nd speaker in JV and Julie Schmidt was 8th speaker in JV.

Bailee Rasmussen was 39th seed in Varsity -- top 36 break, so very close only needing 1.5 more points, out of 210 possible.

Christian Keil was the 17th seed going into JV octos missing the break by .5 speaker points.

Flight 788 arrive at 4:09PM -- see you then!

Dec 1-2 @ UT-Austin

Longhorn Classic
University of Texas at Austin
Austin, Texas
December 1-2, 2006

Contact Andy Charrier at 651.387.8305 or send email to charrier@debate194.net if you have questions.

We are bringing a number of coaches along to judge and chaperone: Steve Kinsella, Liz Vieira, Katie Whillock, Peter Zhou, and Paul L. Starita. Mr. Gunderson (Luke's dad) is also coming along to help escort people to their rooms.

Transportation Information:
We will take a school bus from South and North to get to the airport.
Bus will leave South at 1:00PM and upper doors of North at 1:15.
You will need to call for a ride on Sunday when we return.

We are flying on American Airlines.
Outbound on Thursday, November 30th:
Flight 1655 30NOV MSP-DFW depart 415P arrive 650P
Flight 1629 30NOV DFW-AUS depart 730P arrive 830P
Return on Sunday, December 3rd:
Flight 1128 03DEC AUS-DFW depart 600A arrive 700A
Flight 1102 03DEC S DFW-MSP depart 810A arrive1025A

We will use Blue Shuttle to move from the airport to the hotel.

We are close enough to UT that we will walk to-from the tournament each day.

Hotel:
We are staying at the Super 8, 1201 North I-35, Austin, TX. It's the same place we stayed last year and it's a reasonable place to stay. There is a CVS next door and we had no trouble finding places to eat both in Downtown and near the university. Plus pizza delivery is an option as well.

APUSH students might consider photo-op near I-35 for flex points.

Other Information:
Ladies -- Bring a pair of comfy walking shoes and then change when you get to the building you are debating in. You might walk more than a mile to get to your round.

In Texas, you wait for the judge to arrive before you enter the room. Wait in the hallway. That's not like Minnesota where you get setup and wait for the judge. If you don't wait for the judge, it's considered impolite.

Print off this campus map and bring it with you. Actually, print a couple copies. :)

Here is a link to check the weather forecast.

Finally, bring your cell phone and charger. We'll make a directory like we did for Yale.

Tournament Schedule:
Just think of yourself as doing nothing but debating for 2 days and rid your mind of the idea that you'll actually follow this schedule. But, for those who need order in their lives, this is the planned schedule.

Friday Night Work Session

As always, the Friday night work session is open to ALL of our team
members. So if you are looking for some computer time or time to ask some questions or have your case looked over, etc., the work session nights are a good opportunity.

This week we will meet a NORTH instead of our usual South location.
Time is the same, 5-7PM. (Change in location allows for the Tom vs.
Julie showdown!)

Furthermore, I'm asking all of the people competing at Glenbrook to come to the work session so that we can start looking at a few things to prep.

Andy.

Apple Valley Recap

Our trip to Apple Valley was great! We competed against 69 schools
from 18 states -- this was a national-level tournament, right in our
own back yard.

Lots of good news:

Lakevillle North finished 3rd in overall team sweepstakes, behind
Lynbrook and Edina. I have to think that Lakeville South was close to
that award too. The sweepstakes award is a measure of overall team
success.

Our Varsity debaters did not win any hardware, but were all in
position to break going into the last couple rounds. It's good to be
in a spot where you control your own destiny and things just didn't
fall their way in round seven. Alexandra Fernandez, Courtney
Erickson, Tyler Traub, Abbie Gudmundson, and Mike Berger all finished
with a 4-3 record.

JV debaters had a great tournament!
Tim Jennings -- Quarterfinalist
Lindsay Kubina -- Quarterfinalist
Elisabeth White -- Octofinalist
Julie Schmidt -- Octofinalist

Tim Jennings -- 1st speaker
Lindsay Kubina -- 6th speaker
Julie Schmidt -- 8th speaker

Christian Keil and Tom Caruso debaters were 4-2 but lacked enough
points to break.

Novice debaters also have plenty to be happy about:
Carissa VanSlooten -- Quarterfinalist
Taylor Ehlis -- Quarterfinalist
Steven Elliott -- Octofinalist
Alexandra Nelson -- Octofinalist
Sarah Lund -- Octofinalist

Alexandra Nelson -- 1st speaker
Carissa VanSlooten -- 6th speaker
Steven Elliott -- 8th speaker
Sarah Lund -- 11th speaker
